Ed: As a trainee journalist living in the county of Suffolk, United Kingdom, I tend to write news stories about people and events in this county.
This is primarily down to a limited budget, which means (at the moment) I’m unable to get further afield to other places around the UK.
In creating my news site/blog, I became more aware that there is also a Suffolk in the United States, one which has many news institutions with ‘Suffolk’ in their name. It was these that influenced the naming of my site ‘Suffolk Reporter,’ as other names were already taken.
I’ve also realised that this may cause problems when writing news stories, as people may get confused between the two places.
This week I received a request from a Mr Brennan, of Nesconset, New York, asking me to get the word out about a free indoor girls softball clinic at the Cherokee Elementary School (?).

Under normal circumstances, I would approach this story like any other – find out about the story, get a quote, and write from a neutral point of view and showing no bias. But I couldn’t help but feel sorry that I couldn’t really help at all – primarily, because I live several thousand miles away.
However, in an extreme circumstance such as this, I didn’t want to not post about it either. Therefore, I wanted to upload the poster I received (above) as a gesture of goodwill. I sincerely hope all goes well!
